Playing Catch with Fruit Part 2: Oranges
Page top
In this post I am assuming t hat the orange round things that they give out in the cafeteria are oranges. I've never actually eaten them. They tend to break and get sticky and dirty when dropped once or twice. But that's part of the fun.
The procedure is pretty much the same for oranges as it is for apples (please see my earlier post), but there are a few idiosyncracies that oranges have, especially when personified (inside joke). However, oranges tend to get much messier. Their peel breaks after being dropped once or twice. That is ok. Just keep playing. The juice gets everywhere, and you get sticky, and the pulp sticks to you whenever you get hit, but it tends to travel in weird ways, especially when broken. It is lighter, so it can be affected by winds more. If you like getting sticky, this one is for you. Just, it gets uncomfortable on really hot days.
You will notice that oranges resemble actual balls more than apples. That is probably why I tried it in the first place. It was still fun, especially when the people you are playing with don't know its an orange and not a ball. Then things tend to get interesting. I still remember the look on my friend's face when he realized, a split second after he threw it, that it wasn't really a ball. It was priceless. Try it.

I can't wait to try it. What's the inside joke?
Since, for me anyway, "idiosyncracies" usually refers to people, so it could be a metaphor for the nonlinearity of the human mind. It could be that it's a funny concept playing catch with metaphorical oranges. Or it could be that it sounded so much like an inside joke that I had to make it one. Something llike that.
